The President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil has congratulated, Shri Sushil Kumar for capturing the Bronze Medal in the Men's Wrestling Freestyle 66 Kg. category at the Beijing Olympic Games today.
In her message to Shri Sushil Kumar, the President has said, "I am extremely delighted and proud that you have won the Bronze Medal in Wrestling in the Freestyle 66 Kg. category at the Beijing Olympic Games. Your determination, grit and ambition for achievement have given the nation its second medal at these Games. You have proved that hard work will always bring laurels."
The President has also wished him well for the future.
The Vice President of India Shri Mohd. Hamid Ansari has congratulated Shri Sushil Kumar for winning the Bronze Medal in the Men’s 66 Kg Freestyle Wrestling at the Beijing Olympic Games today.
The Vice President noted that the Bronze Medal of Shri Sushil Kumar reflects his hard work and determination. He said that this valuable addition to the Indian medal tally is a further inspiration for Indian sportspersons.
The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, has congratulated Sushil Kumar on his winning the Bronze medal at the Olympic games. In a message to Sushil Kumar, the Prime Minister said, “ I congratulate you on winning the Bronze medal in the 66 kg wrestling event in the Olympic Games. Your achievement has brought joy and pride to the nation. Your accomplishment will inspire all young sportspersons of the country to excel in their chosen fields of endeavour.”
The Minister of Railways, Shri Lalu Prasad has congratulated Railwayman Shri Sushil Kumar who won Bronze Medal in the Men’s Freestyle 66-Kg class Wrestling at the Olympics – 2008 in Beijing today. Shri Lalu Prasad said that Shri Sushil Kumar being the first ever Railwayman winning an Olympic medal, has brought glory to India and to Indian Railways in particular.
On this remarkable achievement, the Minister has rewarded Shri Sushil Kumar with a promotion to the post of Assistant Commercial Manager from his present post as Chief Ticket Inspector (CTI), Delhi division, Northern Railway and also announced a cash prize of Rs.55 lakh to him.
The Minister said that there will be a formal celebration to honour Shri Sushil Kumar when he returns from Beijing.
The Minister for Steel, Chemicals and Fertilisers Shri Ram Vilas Paswan has congratulated Sushil Kumar for winning bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics in 66-kg freestyle category wrestling competition. In a message Shri Paswan said, the medal, the second individual medal in this Olympics won by India, has made us all proud.
He said Public Sector Undertakings under the Steel Ministry will pay Rs. 25 lakh to the wrestler out of which Rs. 15 lakh will be paid by Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) while Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) and National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) will pay Rs. 5 lakh each. The Ministry of Steel will felicitate the wrestler on his return to the country.
Sushil Kumar is one of three wrestlers being supported by the SAIL in their preparation for 2010 Commonwealth Games. The two others are Yogeshwar Dutt in 60 kg category and Rajiv Tomar in 120 kg category.
