Forest Department of Chhattisgarh - The Forest in Chhattisgarh, a state of India is governed by Forest Department Chhattisgarh. Forest is one of the key departments under the Government of Chhatisgarh. The Forest Department is responsible for and engaged in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of forestry, and environmental programmes in the state. It is the sole custodian of rich forest resource of the Chhattisgarh state.

The activities covered in Forest are conservation of flora, fauna, forest and wildlife, afforestation of degraded forests, natural regeneration of forests , management of forest products in the framework of current policy and legislative environment. The Chhattisgarh state has its own Forest Policy specifically developed for Chhattisgarh.

Bamboo a prominent Chhattisgarh Forest Produce has been given prime importence in Chhattisgarh Forest by establishing a fulfledged mission. Bamboo Mission in Chhattisgarh State was launched in the year 2006-07. Chhattisgarh Forest Department is the Nodal Agency. Chief Conservator of Forests (Bamboo Mission / Research & Extension) Raipur is the Mission Director & Bamboo Development Authority for the State level activities.

Department of Agriculture, Horticulture and farm forestry and Chhattisgarh Van Vikas Nigam are the main link agencies. Main objectives of the Mission are to produce sufficient bamboo planting material, Bamboo planting near to villages andforest areas, establishment of processing units to improve and disseminate harvesting techniques, post harvesting management and their proper utilization in making handicraft materials, marketing linkages and thus upliftment of socio-economic conditions of users.

Establishment of central nursery and Bamboo plantation activities have been initiated by Forest Department. Kisan and Mahila Nursery will be established in private sector, SHG's, JFMC's & Public sectors. Training of active farmers and forest officials has been arranged by Forest Department with the involvement of local NGO's.
